IARC Vol. 135: The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) publishes biennial reports examining evidence on PFOA and PFOS carcinogenic risks to humans. In its latest volume, it classified:

  • Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) as Group 1: carcinogenic to humans.

  • Perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS) as Group 2B: possibly carcinogenic to humans.

Both chemicals were found to interfere with how genes are regulated in the body and to weaken immune system function, which contributed to the overall findings.
